Well, the FDA has established a bottled water Standard of Identity to define the several different types of bottled water. Bottled water meeting the Standard of Identity can be labeled as bottled water or drinking water, or one of the following terms: Artesian Water - Water that comes from a well that taps a confined aquifer. An aquifer is a water-bearing underground layer of rock or sand. The water level must be higher than the top of the aquifer. |

Mineral water must have a constant level and certain proportion of minerals and trace elements at the point of emergence from the source.
Purified Water - Water that has been distilled, deionized, run through reverse osmosis or some other suitable process. It can also be labeled as the process it was run through. So, water that was run through a distiller can be labeled as distilled water OR purified water.
Sparkling Water - Water that after treatment, contains the same amount of carbon dioxide that it had when it was removed from the source.
Sparkling bottled waters can be labeled as "sparkling drinking water," "sparkling mineral water," "sparkling spring water," etc.
Spring Water - Water that came from an underground formation from which water flowed naturally to the surface.

Spring water collected with the use of an external force must be from the same underground stratum as the spring and must have all the physical properties that it had before treatment.
Well Water - Bottled water from a hole bored, drilled or otherwise constructed in the ground, which taps the water aquifer.
I generally stick to purified water, and even more specific distilled (if I have a choice). I purchased my own water distiller a while ago and use it daily!
