How Fasting Can Lead You
To Excellent Health!

Fasting is something I came across in November 2006. My dad was scheduled for a quadruple bypass to fix his failing heart. He had clogged arteries galore! That’s about when I started reading and researching about health and cures for diseases.

I was looking for something that didn't require any hospitals, medical procedures or medication.

Granted, my dad was going to have the surgery, but I still wanted to find something that could prevent this or anything else from happening to me or my son!

"One thing my research kept pointing
me back to was fasting."

Digestion takes up of a lot of the body’s energy. When you're body doesn't have to process all that food, the energy becomes available for other things. Once your body begins to heal, you'll begin to experience many positive things, including:

Orange
  • Increased mental clarity
  • Weight loss
  • Increase of energy
  • Breathing becomes fuller, deeper, easier
  • Digestion becomes more effective
  • Your body detoxifies and heals
  • Allergic reactions subside
  • Skin clears and eyes whiten
  • Sense of taste for more healthy foods is restored
I’ve done several short juice fasts. I like the orange juice fast the best, but if I happen to have lots of fruits and veggies around, I’ll just juice whatever I have on hand.

My longest fast was for five days. I felt so good during those five days that I decided to do a short one each week.

This weekly "cleansing" did my body a lot of good.

My heartburn disappeared, I lost some excess weight, my skin cleared up, my nails grew, and my mind felt clearer.

"I had an abundance of energy and clarity!"

Cleaning

I know the perception is that you’ll feel weak and that you're always hungry, but that just isn’t true. I had so much energy, especially towards the end.

I cleaned places in my house that hadn’t been touched in months. I don’t really know how to explain it. You feel more focused; more clear. I wanted to clean.

Maybe subconsciously I felt that my body was being cleansed so I wanted my surroundings to be clean?

Whatever the case, I was happy! I mean I was happy that I was doing it. It wasn't all a cake walk, but the positives definitely outweighed the negatives!

Some detox symptoms that I experienced were dizziness, headaches, hunger, and cravings, but nothing that was unbearable. I would say the hardest part was battling my emotional eating!

"How Long Should I Fast?"

Your body is going through a lot on a daily basis, especially while cleansing and detoxing. Some of the different stages that it goes through while abstaining from food are listed below.

Stage 1 (1 to 7 Days)

  • Your digestive system starts to clear out.
  • Water, minerals, and water soluble vitamins are heavily excreted.
  • Detox symptoms like headaches, hunger, or dizziness are common.

Calendar

Stage 2 (7 to 30 Days)

  • Your liver starts to purge itself of toxins.
  • Flu like detox symptoms may occur along with bad breath, body odor, and acne.
  • Your tongue may get a thick, white coating. A tongue scraper can help with this.

Stage 3 (30 Days or More)

  • Deep tissue cleansing begins.
  • Toxins are beginning to flush out of the kidneys.
  • You may experience bursts of energy one day and fatigue the next. Enjoy those energy bursts!

Keep in mind that everybody is different and may
experience different things at different times.

And always remember to listen to your body! It helps to start small. Try drinking only juice for 1-3 days, take a break, and then try it for 7 days. Ease your body into it.

You can pick a time frame or goal to begin eating again, like 7 days, but the best time to go back to food is when you feel real hunger!

I haven't experienced this yet. I've always stopped because of some social event or just because it's the weekend! But what I've heard about "real hunger" is that "You'll know it when you feel it!".

Fasting is about detoxifying and healing. If you go past that point into starvation, your body will start taking nourishment from your muscles and organs and that's just not what you want!
